I am a self-taught encaustic artist, somewhat untethered by schooling protocols and have enjoyed exploring my creative side for most of my life. I have gained valuable insight into my own artistic development through workshops and studio time with other artists that inspire me.
My creative process lets me push through the chaos of this world and the tightly woven ideas of society to formulate and share my own voice. My hope is that my art expressions will allow the viewer to go on their own journey of self-exploration.
About the Artist
Marlene Fuhrmann lives in White Rock, BC. She has three sons and four grandchildren. She loves to garden and has two flourishing bee hives in her back yard. Marlene has created art most of her life and since 2011 her focus has been on encaustic painting, a technique using melted wax. The aroma and fluidity of melted was, the endless variations of use to the depth and luminosity of the finished work is why it is Marlene’s favorite medium to work with.
Marlene’s art captures unique beauty in the discarded. She mixes these objects with nature itself and this juxtaposition of materials can be seen in many of her art works.
The inception for using Braille in her encaustic art began a a few years ago when she became intrigued by the organized dots with mysterious messages. Marlene’s journey exploring ways to use this very non-traditional material into her visual art had begun and has resulted in many unique and creative pieces.
Her work is displayed in many private collections throughout Canada and the United States.
