The inception for using Braille in my art began a couple of years ago when I became intrigued by the organized dots with mysterious messages. My journey exploring ways to use this very non-traditional material in my visual art had begun. A person doesn’t need to know Braille to sense the pattern of the pendants in this work mean something. As the viewer’s curiosity is aroused, they move closer to discover more about the art itself and possibly more about themselves as they interpret and discuss what they see.

The gentle wave of silk cocoons, once woven by worms to protect a transformation, are the pause between our mind, full of emotional thoughts, to our spoken words. The rusted steel pendants were once used in a ball tunnel to crush rock for cement. They drop like musical notes from the wave of filtered thoughts, their message is perhaps unrecognizable. Until we try to interpret and understand what others say and why, our world remains a mystery.

The rusty trail left on the wax by the pendants allude to the fleeting moment between thought and spoken word. Our words are all reflections on how we interpret ourselves and we are tethered to them like the translucent thread holding the pendants in place. I strongly feel that if we stay curious and keep learning we can change our world to a better place, as the pendants say, ATTITUDE is everything!

This work consists of a set of 20 boards each measuring 24'“ x 8” x 4”.
